Tapered Rod Stocks (Thanks to Scott~)

Post by Brandon "Sparky" Lam »

...I tried to be creative with the title :P Again, thank you very very much Scott for sending these tapered rods to me! ^_^
These were golf clubs, but now will be repurposed for whip purposes~

So today I decided to play around with these rods, and cut a few of them to size. But, I wanted to do something cool, and unfortunately one of the rods was cut up and pretty much almost thrown away (apart from a bit here or there) for calculations.
Here are some of the unfortunate victims -

Image

I spent two hours outside in the cold cutting and sizing three of these rods (though one is unused mostly). Finally, after a lot of work, this is what I ended up with for today -

If you look closely at them, you might see what I plan to do with these ;)
I'll run these under some water tomorrow to get rid of most of the dust (I rounded all the edges so that I can't cut myself on this haha).

But yeah, these will hopefully be my own personal stockwhips with a little twist, and I'm really excited to be working on a new project~ ^_^ Will update when I work on this next chance I get!

This is going to be fun to watch. Thanks for sharing!
I'll give it a try, Dad, but it's going to be really hard...kind of like trying to saw something in half using a banana.

Thank you Sven and Roy! ^_^

Small update - I've plaited the handle portion, need to add the knot and keeper though.

Also, first belly done on both whips, with a tiny bit of light binding. Wondering if I should not make the keeper until I have thee thongs completed and waxed...

Planning for these to be a set of 12 plait 4.5ft long stockwhips ^_^

Thank you Scott, Ron, Jyri and Sven! ^_^

Jyri, I normally do a keeper only on the belly, because then I can tightly bind it with sinew, keeping it on there, and then do an overlay on top of that :)

Sven, when I get obsessed with something, I tend to get REALLY obsessed :P But tbh, the bellies themselves only take me like an hour or so each, so it didn't take too long~

Quick update, got the heel knots made and the first overlay complete (mostly, need to add a TH to the keeper end, as these stockwhips are english eyes). It's now 3am so I'm going to sleep! :P
