Bobbi, those are all very fine. The neon green and black show up so well against each other, and the show whips are wonderfully understated. Enoch will surely be delighted!

Carl, Its true we have such a long summer. Its a 9 month growing season, but the middle of it is hot as h!!. If you ever come to Moab to visit, make it in the spring or fall.
Both of the whips are shiny, but it does look mat in the picture. Here is a link to some better pictures of the whips and of the leaves.

Nice work Bobbi, I was intrigued by the stainless show whips when you first posted them, very pretty combination. Did you manage to solder cups onto the stainless?

Took a look on your blog and they are beauties!
I was thinking about Devin's question above.
I know that you can get expanders (not sure if this is the correct name) Anyway they fit inside of pipe and then you stretch the pipe. They are used to make exhaust pipe connections. Not sure if you can get them in smaller sizes but if you could then you could just stretch the cup for your thong rather than put on a coupling.
Just looked on the interweb and they are available. Just check pipe expanders. Don't know the cost but you could get a cup that you don't have to hide the solder joint on!

Carl and Devin, I never found couplers in stainless and even if I did they may not match the handle. I just stretched out the end and I actually like that look a lot more. I don't know what those stretchers are called either, I'll ask Glen. I'm a very lucky girl. My Father in Law was a metal fabricator before he retired. His shop is right next to my house and he lets me play in there and teaches me how to run the machines.

I don't know as I would do that to stainless, but if you can find the right size it would work with soft copper, not sure about hard copper. Best way to find out though would be to find someone who owns a set of the things as they are very expensive, and see if they would test it on the tubing. The smaller ones are primarily designed for refrigeration use I believe, so they are designed for soft metals, copper, brass, aluminum.

Edit: I didn't see your post Bobbi, in that case stretching it is the way to go since you can do it, sure beats trying to solder stainless, which is a pain. That is awesome having access to metal fabrication, and even better someone who knows their stuff, there is only so much I can do in a hobbyist shop with no serious tools other than a lathe and miter saw.

You could do a nice small tig weld. Stainless isn't normally soldered.

And stretching the end is called flaring. The easiest way is flaring if you have the right tools, but a a fitting could be drilled and tapped on a lot cheaper if you don't have a welder. You could even secure the thong in the same step in this fashion.

Right now, I feel like the flared ends are the answer. I like how they look and it is something I can do here at home. It just seems like the easiest answer. The thing I had problems with at the first was finding stainless that was pretty enough and light enough. some suppliers say they are giving an outside diameter and really it was the inside.... But now that is all solved so I'm good to go on the stainless. ...just poor Enoch had to wait while I tested it all out.

Yea I know how dealing with companies can be, you get an email from a salesmen who drops the ball when you need them. I'm sure it will have been worth the wait.

Oh and those Ric Boyd falls are sweeeeeeet, usually I can look at something and reverse engineer it in my head instantly. I have no clue how he does that!

He is the only person making falls like this that I know of. He has to be slipping the cord over, but I have no clue how he gets the little rings of color on. Really creative. Because to get an eye on the first color the cord is already 2 layers thick.

Derek, Ric is amazing and such a nice guy. If you saw one of the falls in person you would know how to do it. I don't think it is super hard but it is time consuming. Ric is missing an entire leg, but that doesn't stop him from doing everything he wants to. He ordered a matched set of desert camo whips from me to honor his service in the 101 airborne. He sent me some falls as a thank you for the whips. It was my idea that he should sell them but I don't take any of the money. It all goes to him. I keep pestering him to join this group but he is shy, as he thinks its just for whip makers.
