Brandon, I've never seen a whip where I thought the binding was too tight!
Ron, just persevere with your whip from Einar. It's still very early days. Keep using it 'normally', and you'll find that suddenly it's become an extension of your hand, and will do exactly what you tell it. (That's why learning to tell it exactly what you want is so important: whatever you tell it with your hand - that will happen. Not what you might like to happen....)

Ron, excellent work so far. Although I'm far from an expert, I am pretty good at giving a whip a crack or two and getting a feel for performance. If you're ever feeling brave, I'd be happy to pay for you to ship some of your work to me to try out, then send it back your way with my amateur impressions. Let me know. Either way, this one appears to be on the road to glory.

Grant , when I have more than 1 whip (I don't count whip #1 and the contest whip needs broken in) I might do that.
It would be nice to have someone who knows what a whip should do and feel like
give some input as to how it performs and feels and how i might improve it.
Thanks.

It's ok if you disagree with me.

I am almost finished with the first 'trip' down the thong with the first binding.
I used closed loop binding on the transition to about a foot past then open loop with about a 1/8" gap to about another foot. I then proceeded with the binding opening up the gap gradually as I went down to the end of the belly.
I will then travel back up the thong matching the gap of the first trip down until I am back up the top of the handle.
I will then test the 'Amperage' with the roll out and wave tests to see if it's acceptable or not.
It has taken me three days to get about half way on the first binding and I expect it to take about that long for the rest at least.

I thought I would go ahead and post my binding on the second belly up to this point.
The photo does not show the single spiral going all the way down nor the spiral coming back up to the clothes pin where I stopped when I got tired and my fingers and hand decided to hold a protest.
I wrapped the top of the handle tight and then spiraled down to the transition where I used closed loop binding for about a foot then slowly opening up the loop to a more open configuration gradually getting wider until the end, then coming back up following the gap width to match what was there.
(wish I had a better camera)

Thank you Robert.
I can tell all ready that this one is way better than the first.
It's just that the camera does not show much detail, but from this distance in order to get the whole whip in it just don't.
One of the things I really like about artificial sinew is that it stays put, even with out the clothes pin, when you need to stop and rest. No worries about it loosing tension and relaxing the binding you've all ready done.
