Ok participants, we have a plan.

Let's start the underhand crack today.
This one is really difficult for me for some reason.
But that's what the 10/10 challenge is for, right ?

Here's the first installment for Day 1 .

I'm not sure how to actually finish the crack.
I tried rotating the handle at the end and raising my arm at the finish but I'm not sure what it's supposed to be or how to translate the finish into another crack at a later time.

Ron, when you finish out just the flick, you want to go ahead and bring the whip all the way around so it is right back on the ground where you started. Practice like this at first. You will do it a little different when doing it in a combo. I'll see if I can make an example sometime this weekend for you

Ron the crack looks and sounds great. Just clean up the ending and you have it mastered.
I use this crack all the time from horseback, except I leave out the actual crack. I just touch cattle on the rear and they start moving.

Thanks Roy.
We used that method on the ranch using a longish knotted ended lariat .
It wasn't a whip but it worked.

Yeah, the ending is a mystery especially if you are going to combine this crack with another.

Thank you very much for posting the link to Robby's video Ron !!!

If I'm not mistaken than all participants (you, Jessie and me) have bought Whip Basics volume 1 before this challenge began.

Your technique looks so much better than mine (I'll have my video uploaded by tomorrow) since I'm struggling with both - the actual crack itself and cleaning up the movement at end of the crack.
I think what might help you to clean up the movement at the end is to continue the motion of the arm towards the position where you've had it in the beginning of the crack.
You seem to be sometimes making a "pause" at 12 o'clock (I'm ALWAYS making that mistake) before bringing the whip back to the position where you've started your crack.

All the best

Ben, I think only you and Jessie have video Vol.1 .
I haven't bought it yet. I'm just going by what's on YouTube that Robby has posted.
I was stopping at 12:00 and rotating my wrist and letting the handle fall back in my hand.
I will try to rotate my arm at the end of the crack to bring it back to the start position.
That makes sense.
Thank you Ben. :)

You're welcome Ron and sorry for that mistake - I thought you own Whip Basic volume 1 since you're cracking exacly the way that Robby describes it in his DVD tutorial (my bad !!!).

Hi participants !

I'm very frustrated - not because of todays or yesterdays practice but because Photobucket is giving me such a hard time uploading my videos today.
I'm doing the exact same steps to upload my video that I've been following on my recent successful uploads but it doesn't work :(
I've spend more than 4 houres in front of my computer trying to upload a video today. The uploads have been successful in terms of uploading the content to Photobucket but after that theres a sign saying "we are processing your video - check back soon".The same sign also appeared on my successful uploads and about ten minutes after that the videos had been ready to be posted.
Today was different - even after 1,5 houres the video hasn't been processed and I've therfore started the whole procedure over again twice with the same result :(
I'm thinking about subscribing to Youtube or Vimeo but I doubt that uploading a video will be easyer for me on these websites since I'm not familiar with them in terms of uploading (I'm pretty shure that uploading on Youtube will involve many settings and choices of which I have no clue about).
To sum it all up: Photobucket sucks, I'm bad at dealing with computer stuff and I urgently need to do something about it to get the videos that I've shoot into this thread !!!

It's good to hear that the temperatures in texas have dropped to a whipcracking friendly level Ron !!!
The weather in my area has also been very good for whipcracking today - not to hot and not to cold with no rain.

I'm doing my 4th uploading attempt while I'm writing this post - wish me luck !!!

Ben, it's really easy to upload to Youtube. You download your video to your computer then open Youtube and in the upper right corner of the page is a button that says 'upload'. You left click that and when the little window opens up you go to your video file and click on that and it automatically uploads.
A new little window will open up and it will tell you how long and what % of the video has uploaded and how much time is left to finish.
There is a box under the status part of the upload window where you can put a description and when the video has finished uploading (it will tell you) just pick a thumbnail that you want which will be what viewers see on the page that has holds your video. You're done. It will also give you a link which you will "copy" then post it on WB like you do any link.

Opening a Youtube account just requires you to follow the instructions and give the information that is asked for.
It's pretty easy really.

Good luck with what ever method you choose.

It might be that your video is longer than the others maybe. (?)

On today's practice I did most everything the same but I am bringing my arm around more towards the back so the thong would try to end up at it's origin of the crack.
It feels awkward but it kind of works.
I am also slowing down between repetitions and thinking about it more.

It's also safer to bring it all the way around. You want the energy to go out of the whip on its own in a safe direction. Stoping the whip before the energy is spent results in a fat lip

Than you for your tips Ron !!!

I've shoot two videos of day 2 from the underhand crack practice and the video that I've tryed to upload to photobucket yesterday is a little bit longer than the other videos that I've posted so far.
I've managed to upload the other video that I've shot on day 2 but I'll be subscribing to either Youtube, Vimeo or Dailymotion in order to avoid uploading problems in the future.

So here is the video:

http://vid1098.photobucket.com/albums/g ... atmwqt.mp4

As you can see there is A LOT of room for improvement.
I have decided to pratice the movement of bringing down the thong to the strating position with a stick in addition to my 10 minute whip practice in order to get the hang of that motion.

All the best

The main Photobucket website has become progressively worse over the last few months. It's slow and unreliable. At the moment I'm using the mobile Photobucket App to upload pics to Whip Basics because the website is so baaaaad!

Ben , I am sorry that you have had such a battle with the video hosts.
I too found that a shorter video will upload with fewer problems and less upload time.
Not only are we learning the cracks but how to best share what we are learning.
Thank you for your perseverance.

It looks pretty good to me and your off hand (right) is looking the mirror image of your left. Good job on that.

OhhhhKayyy. I just tried my first whip cracking ever. About 30 minutes circus crack. Well let's admit it took me a couple of minutes before anything cracked at all. Still so much to improve. Timing, motion etc. I'm camera shy so it will take a while to dare to record and post. But I will do sooner or later.

But I'm already champion in making knots in falls and crackers. Especially figure-eight knots.

Thanks again to Robert for making it possible.

Alex, thank you for joining the 10/10 challenge.
I know that all, if not most, of us have the unwanted talent of being able to tie knots in falls and crackers with out using direct contact. It's unavoidable.

What did you have problems with and what were your stronger points during the practice?

I do hope you can , at some point, capture the practice on video so we can all benefit from the good points as well as the not so good points.

The main thing, is what I believe this challenge to be, is to "practice" and gain knowledge. In that, you are succeeding as are we all.
Kudos for jumping in.

Ron
