I do 8 and plait bellies for my 16 plait whips. It usually works well.

What else there is to do in nightshift? Bullwhips of course!

Plaiting second belly in 8plait

Done! Next night I am going to do 16plait overlay. It rolls nicely! This time I have been taking notes so next bullwhip build should be faster to make.

Jyri, that does look like an excellent start! A very good use of your night shift!

Looks good Jyri! Excellent. Just make sure that you bind your transition very tightly. Otherwise, you're gonna end up with what we call a "limp noodle".

Jesse, after I took this photo, I binded it with waxed thead. I have been trying to focus on plaiting staightness and tightiness and I am hoping that everything is going to stay straight.

The more attention you pay to what you are doing, the higher the chances that you will get the result you were after in the first place.

That's looking very nice Jyri! I like the colors and the nice plaiting.
The first picture in this thread showed two handles, that's exactly the way i make them too. Solid as a rock is my experience!
But the whip looks very good.

So... Overlay is done but I am not happy with it.. 1. I can see my strand dropping..(Arrrrgh!!!) 2. The seam.. It's kind of straight...but it is in wrong place! It rolls straight but I am thinking about taking it apart.. Some times I am happy that I can do stuff in nightshifts.. Buuut times when I wake up and look what I have done.. It is not joke that you function like drunk when staying up all night

Jyri, from the photo it looks good.
I can't see the entire whip but the taper looks ok.
Maybe if you roll it a bit more, that might help some.
If you are going to wax it, rolling it while it's still hot will also help.
Make sure you have a clean surface and a place where you won't
mind residual wax left behind where you roll it.
It also looks like your fall hitch is good too.
Let us know how it cracks.
Nice job.

I gave it some light craking and it behaved pretty nicely! Sorry for bad cracking, haven't used whip this long!

Jyri, it looks liken it has a very good taper. The only drop I see is where I'm guessing you went from 6 to 4. One thing you can do to help that when you make your next one or redo that one, is to pull your core strand/strands. If you have the whip in a vise or on a hook, you can pull the core a little bit, which will help to relax the uneven tension from the plaiting.

Jesse, you saw right, that is one of the 4-6 places I dont't like in that whip

I have to try that when I fix the fall hich.

From the picture, I'm not really seeing anything else. But then again, seeing in reality vs on a computer screen are very different.

Jyri, thanks for the video.
I'm curious though, how do you drop strands in the overlay?
Not as criticism! I'm would just like to know.
The only drop I see is also the 6-4 drop, but the rest of the thong looks good in the picture. Not that I'm and expert or anything, but that's my opinion.
It seems to flow pretty and has a nice taper to it.
