Brandon, it looks like a single diamond plait.

It does, doesn't it! But it's actually a TH variant, as you can see the top and bottom! :O

Like a long turks head, for handles and such?
Or a multi strand herringbone knot.

Brandon, it's a Barber Pole knot, I think. Here's a 6 bight version.

It is known as the Barber Pole knot. It is made by interweaving two Matthew Walker knots. I'll see if can dig up a few things.

Ok... there is not as much as I seem to remember on Barber Pole knots. At any rate, they are easy enough to make with the AGM. For example here is the runlist for a 10p 8b Barber Pole:
Strand 1 (gold)
From A1 to B6
From B6 O1 to A3
From A3 U1 to B8
From B8 O2 to A5
From A5 U2 to B2
From B2 O3 to A7
From A7 U3 to B4
From B4 O4 to A1
Strand 2 (black)
From A2 O5 to B7
From B7 U4 O1U1 to A4
From A4 O4U1 O1 to B1
From B1 U3 O1U1 O1U1 to A6
From A6 O3U1 O1U1 O1 to B3
From B3 U2 O1U1 O1U1 O1U1 to A8
From A8 O2U1 O1U1 O1U1 O1 to B5
From B5 U1 O1U1 O1U1 O1U1 O1U1 to A2

Wow! Thank you everyone for all that info. I do like that Barber’s Pole and will certainly investigate.
Here’s the transition knot partially tightened.

And forget that last picture. I managed to nick a cord while trimming the ends AGAIN! Got to cut the damn thing off and start all over again.

Oh, Rog! How disheartening!

Robert, it's the one item my toolkit is missing - a decent pair of micro-tip scissors. I'm currently using a sharp knife but the risk of nicking bits you don't want to is an issue. This is the second time it's happened in two whips. I did it on Cappuccino and had to remake the heel knot (if I remember right)!
I suspect Santa will be bringing me something from the Fiskars catalogue this year!

Very cool Sir Roger.
I just use an Exacto knife and take my sweet time.

Roger,
It's looking great! Though, I think I might see a mistake on the last half-cycle of the interweave.

Yes Ethan, I spotted that. Doesn't matter as that knot no longer exists except as scrap in the bottom of my waste bin!

Mark and Ethan, thanks for the info, it is definitely the Barber Pole knot ^_^
Roger, that's a shame, good luck with your new knot! I don't know if it'd help, but I actually use a razor to cut the strands, which is slightly harder than scissors, but I find you need to pull the strand to tension before cutting, so it's harder to cut something you don't want cut

Thanks all. That heel knot does fit in the hand very nicely.

Looks fantastic, Sir Roger. If your friend does as nice a job on your guitar you will both have beautiful instruments.
