Rachel, you're absolutely right about the importance of concistency. Getting that is the most important thing I see on my way towards being a master too. Maybe some day, but that's not my call so it will remain to be seen.

And the whip is really cool. Simple and elegant. I like the contrast between thong and handle colors, it's "flashy" in a certain way but still subtle and down to earth. Plus it looks like a purpose built tool.

I do like the horizontal handle position for displaying a whip .
Hanging straight down would do also but not nearly as dramatic an option.

If I can be very slightly critical: I'm sure this whip works well - but, to my eye, the thong looks too thin and light-weight for the handle (or the handle too thick and heavy for the thong). This is a purely aesthetic reaction....

I think it might have been better if the end of the handle (where the cup is) had been thinned down ('angled') so that the diameter of the wood, in the last inch or two, came nearer to the diameter of the thong. As it is, it looks as if the end of the handle has been cleanly 'sliced off': I think it's this, more than anything, which seems slightly 'wrong' to my eye. But this is purely subjective....

Rachel, I only dare to make this point because I admire your work so much! I really think you go from strength to strength!

Mr. Robert I agree with you wholeheartedly! Unfortunately for aesthetics, I had to pick function over looks. That handle stands a fair chance of having to... Bring a difficult cow back to its senses, and I couldn't chance the wood being too thin right there. With another wood, such as Goncalo Alves or the like, that won't be an issue like this. This is about the last oak handle I will be making, I think.
