I have seen a number of plaiters use this technique, it works wonders! Good luck sir, it's really coming along!

Nice one Ron, I use a thin foam padding to protect the whip from the jaws of my vise. It never occured to me to turn it 'upside down' and clamp it your way. Simple, as the best ideas tend to be.

Ron, I like how you improvise and overcome. That is a slick idea. Looks like the whip is coming along nicely

Thanks every one, it works and works well.
There's less chance of plait distortion because of the vice, so they should stay tighter.

The second belly is completed and ready for binding. :)
It has a nice gradual taper to it.

Thanks Rachel, and Brandon.
It's got a long way to go yet.
Binding the whoooohooo out of it is next.
Then the 16pl which I have never done before.

16 pl you can do it. It looks daunting but you'll knock it out!

Ron, My overlay is 16pl also. I just cant figure out what to do with the dropped strands to prevent bumps. Have you ever tried weaving them into the belly? Not sure if its doable with the biding though.

Brandon, in the past I just laid it over on top of the belly I am plaiting over and just plaited over it for about
about 4 or five laces. The pulled down on it to make sure it was still tight above... trimmed it off.... singed it... then continued on plaiting.
I hope that's the right way. It's the only way I know.

Thank you Mr. Robert.

I wish you and other practitioners were local to me so I could get
some direct feed back from some one who knows how a quality whip
should feel.

That how i drop strands as well, Ron. I feel your pain i wish i could get a hold of a properly made whip so i could compare mine to it.

Brandon, I have a 12pl 8 footer made by Einar Stephenson, but other than it being well plaited and
super stiff, I have not been able to break it in after a couple of weeks of using it, there's not much I can
tell about how it was made.

It's so stiff still that the tail will not bend with gravity.
It might take months to break it in, but it will last for ever.

Hmm its interesting you said that i was about to post this on my whip #3 thread but it goes with what your saying. Its belly number 2 first layer of binding. I was wondering if its possible to bind too tight? I pulled the sinew as tight as i could, to the point the skin came off my finger. Then at the last i broke the sinew i pulled it so hard. Its ok though i was about to cut it.
