Congrats Ron! Tying it with the sinew is a damn good idea. I think I will give that a try if I ever use the crown start again.

Roy, it worked for me.
It was more like regular plaiting on a handle or thong and easier to see that the strands were not twisted when "going around the back".

Ron I love when cheap and simple ideas become a game changer

I haven't tried crown start yet, but probably will for the Bodacious whip. I'm thinking of making a sort of a snare trap loop from sinew that goes through all bights in the start, no idea if that actually works. Only one way to find out. Oh, and it's at least 20-plait because world is full of joy :)

Pokkis that sounds sort of what I did.
Here's the photo of the sinew threaded through the crown tip subunits.

Ron, that looks really good, when you are transferring it and tightening it up, make sure the strands are not overlapping before starting to plait anything, using bobby pins to hold the strands helps a lot. You can take them off after a couple plaits and pull everything tight.

Yeah, something like that. I'll let you all know how it worked out.

I am starting to plan the pattern for the fancy plaiting.
I understand the thing, but for the last option as to "full left color" , " full right color" or " " half and half" .
What does each option do?
Which one do I need ?

Also what would be an impressive but simple pattern to do for someone's first attempt at 'fancy plaiting' ?

Just leave it all one color to start. Then start clicking squares and they will change to the other color and make your pattern. The left and right just help you figure out if it is going to be light or dark.

I think if you do a repeating pattern it will look impressive but it will also be easier because you will eventually do the same thing again.

I'm excited to see what you come up with!

I am having a terrible time with twisting.
How do I fix what's all ready there and how do I stop the twisting in the first place.
If I tighten the working strand it wants to twist. If I try to move the plaits around to look straighter it won't tighten up with out twisting right back. :(

I never had this problem with the herringbone.

Ron, I snapped a chalk line on my thong and then lined up with that. It helped tremendously. It's something about focusing too hard on the end result. Try the chalk line or a ruler and a chalk
