Thanks Ben. I mostly got the idea from Tyler from some of his first whips.

Tyler, the roaster is not going to be the main cost, as you well know, it's the wax that is averaging $25 @ 10 lbs..

Looking at previous posts here in WB, it looks like I would need from 3 to 4 of those to work in a 18qt to 22 qt roaster and that's just a cost I can't absorb right now.
Maybe next month.
But what's the worst is, I don't want to put cracking stress on the whip until it's waxed.
I have the patience of a buzzard on speed.

Go to the thrift store or garage sale and find a booyah pot or, at wal mart, you can get these aluminum basins, like you bob for apples in? Anyway 5 bucks. Also, parafin canning wax is CHEAP at wally world too.

Jessie, paraffin canning wax (Gulf Wax) at Wallyworld is $10.92 for 16oz.
For 40 lbs. that would make it $436.80 . Right? (my math could be wrong)
Roy sells it for 10 lbs. for about $25. That would still be around $100.

Yes, unscented paraffin wax is what you want

The shipping is as much as the product.
I figured it out and it's only $0.10 cheaper per pound with shipping added on.
Not a good deal.

Ron, my shipping for that is double of the cost of the wax itself. You could try going to Walmart and see if they have unscented candles on sale. The tea candles would work too.

So far Whip Nation has the better price.
But I am not sure about how much shipping would add to it.
I'm going to email Roy and find out.

Ron, yup, Roy was very helpful with helping me figure out the shipping cost when i was ordering my supplies from him. I'm guessing shipping shouldn't be too bad since he's not that far from you.

I still have to check out Hobby Lobby to see what they have.

Ron, this saga is very tantalising! I really look forward to hearing what waxing does to your whip!

Mr. Robert, me too.
I don't want to unduly stress the whip before I can wax it and influence the behavior
after waxing. I want to see how waxing changes the performance. I have a good of before and
now I need a good after.
If finances were not a concern getting set up for waxing would not be a problem. But just to start out it's going to take about $150 or there about. After the system is set up not so much.

What the heck? 2 pound block of gulf wax is only about 1.50$ here. And, why 40 pounds??? I think I've waxed 3 whips on the original 6 pounds of wax I bought and still have wax left.

Jessie, did you wax it in parts?

nope. made a kind of double boiler situation by setting an aluminum tub on top of a dutch oven full of boiling water, melted the wax, stuck the whip in and used a fork to kind of shove it down under the wax until it stopped bubbling. It barely covered the whip, but it covered just fine.

I am wanting to use an 18qt to 22qt turkey roaster.
I think Craig used a 14qt and it , according to the post, took 3 blocks (10lbs. @) and he had to sort of tilt it to have it cover the whip. I want to wax it and bend/coil it as little as possible in the process.

I use a 22 qt roaster and 1 10 lb block was plenty- Ron, do you have a Hobby Lobby local to you?

Yes, there's one in town.
I called and they have wax for about $25.
So, I am going down this afternoon and getting some.
Most likely just 10lbs. or maybe 20 lbs. to use later. (they only had 4 blocks)

Click on that and it will open a new window with a %40 off coupon. Print that out, take it with you and now the $25 block of wax is a $15 block of wax. That's how I got my wax, and I use these sometimes 5 days a week to buy art supplies. Go forth, and save!
