Here are the matched 5 footers I made to perform with at the pirate show- I left the handles and collars bare so they'll get a patina.

Tyler, so sleek and artfully made! The patina will really add a very cool dimension!

That's going to look so cool as they age.

Beautiful work Tyler!

The construction looks like a mix between an Academy (thong) and the Night Sky (pipe handle) - Love it!

All the best

Thanks Jessie! Itdoesn't show well in the photo, but they are visibly dirty. I was thinking I'll do a tutorial video on how to clean white whips soon, from the perspective of someone who cleans carpets for a living.

Here is my most recent Academy, 6 foot with dragonfly paracord. It's the first time I've used that, I like it.

See? That patterned paracord is an untapped bit of awesome. I'm on my 3rd whip using it and it's fun. :) Check out the "mind bender" patterns. Fun.

Now that is really cool! Really clean and bright, I especially love the mix of the new cord in the heel knot- really a great look, Tyler!

Huh that's a very interesting design! What's the connection between the black and dragonfly paracord near the fall? O_O Did you start the overlay there and plait backwards? :O That's cooooool

Rachel's right: the knots look great! I imagine this whip would be very very effective for displays in semi-darkness. Well done, Tyler!

That looks good Tyler. It looks very smooth, is that a special kind of paracord?

I'll google it in a moment.

Thanks Y'all! Ron and Jessie, I agree- this is an area worth exploring. I really dig that one that Sir Roger uses too...

Thanks Sparky! You nailed it, that's how I do all my Academy bullwhips :)

Thanks Robert- on the dragon fly, the brightest parts are neon green and would fluoresce under a black light... I have a black light at work (used for locating ... uh, "protein based" spills in carpet) I might have to take some in and try to get a good pic sometime.

Thanks Ben!

Thanks Sven! The bright cord is called dragonfly, it's just the name they gave this color, I'd say it's a weave that has neon and two other greens. I did find the cord a bit stiff- has anyone else noticed on multi colored cord a feeling of stiffness? The black is my wavelace.

Oh wow, that's very interesting to hear, and so cool!! I might give that a go one day, plaiting each belly backwards from the tip but each from a different length, would give a very weird stepped whip look :P

I am having a little trouble with the colored paracord "wilting" in the wax bath. I don't want to muck up your thread with a picture, but there seems to be a difference, some is nylon, some is polyester? I am wondering if I got the polyester (core strands were cottony?) I didn't notice on the Holmes whip because the plaiting was tight, but when doing a decorative knot on something else with the leftovers, I waxed and stuff got weird. I'd be happy to PM the result. It's just a bit of a scrunch.

Sparky, my first iterations of my exowhip design had 3 to 4 bellies, with the stairstep taper. It works, and if you hate dropping strands it's pretty awesome :) But just know that at first, it will have an odd feel- as the whip rolls out, you'll be able to feel each successive belly end as the loop goes through. As the whip breaks in, that will decrease.
