Whip Basics. The Forum

Thanks, everyone. I really enjoyed making this whip. It's very light (350 grams) and very easy to crack. I think that 5 ft is a perfect length as well. I'm going to make another straight away to keep, I think.

Flemming, I'm starting to really love my stock whips. I have another that I made back during the summer and the one I got from Rachel and I enjoy using them as much as the practical whip I got from Jessie a few months ago. I also have an 8 ft nylon bull, the two roo bullwhips I've made, a 6 ft snake whip and an 8 ft cow whip. I also really enjoyed making the stock whips. I used to do a little woodworking years and years ago, back before kids and overtime and all that, and getting my hands on a nice piece of wood and finding out what it wants to be and helping it get there is very comforting and fulfilling. Stock whips, or at least wooden handle whips are my future, I think. Trouble is, all anyone around here wants are huge, heavy, long, LOUD bullwhips. Sigh.

Don't worry, Mark. They will learn. I was approached for a shot loaded 10 foot bullwhip once and I refused, telling the guy that I don't do commissions aside from mildly with the practice whips. I referred him to a couple of other whipmakers and figured I would never hear from him again. When Robby did my videos, he messaged me and said, "I wish I would have bought a whip from you." then on instagram the other day, again he commented that he regrets not buying a whip from me. After they have the giant ones and realize they aren't worth much for practice, they come around and realize that it's good to buy clothes that fit instead of swimming in oversized attire.

That's one reason they don't use stretch limos in driver's ed.
