I love, love those little personal touches. I think more care should be put into handmade objects to make them special. Who says a working whip can't be an heirloom piece? Yeah. Your whips are awesome, Roy. So are your dining room chairs. My mom was sitting behind me when I was scrolling through the thread and she screamed, "OH THOSE CHAIRS ARE AWESOME!"

Roy, you'll have to take some close up pics if you do that handle again in future. I think it's really unique.

That is REALLY cool and unique Roy! I can imagine that the wooden pieces at each end of a lightweight handle would give it kind of a "cantilever" feeling, I'm not sure that's the best term.... how did you like the balance?

I always felt as though the phrase "form follows function" might be amended to read "form IS function" in the sense that artistic appeal can derive directly from efficient design. I feel as though the artistic appeal of a tool such as a whip is intrinsically rooted in one's knowing it can be used for a very long time. Beautiful!

I was curious about the tapered twist: Do you drop short strands by lacing them into longer strands that continue the twist? Also, do you bother with shot/BB weighting on longer whips with 2 bellies? Thanks, again!

Brian, thank you kindly. Yes, when transitioning from four plait to tapered twist I lace 2 short strands into the 2 longer strands. Cut the 2 short strands at different lengths to get the tapering effect. I do not shot load 2 belly whips. They are heavy enough after waxing and I can twist a core much faster than I can fill it with BBs

Thanks, Roy! I just tried doing my first TT core after this fashion and there is no "kinking" / hinging at drop points and the taper is splendid. I appreciate your guidance!

Mystery, mystery! A Jessie-Gator!!! Can't wait to see!!!!

This is a whip that I made to be raffled at the 2016 Florida Ranch Rodeo Finals and whip cracking championship. It is 10ft and 16 plait in Crimson. The handle is Bocote and features a medallion of the state of Florida. The medallion was custom made for me by my cousin Brandy Tyson. You can check out her FB page
