Angry hands

This is my tapered twisted core for a 12 ft 12 plait cow whip. It's 6 ft long and took me about 30 minutes to complete. There's much easier ways to make cores but this works well for my whips. It's rough on the hands

Angry!!! That is the understatement of the year! I swear doing a taper twist fall. I can't believe that you did this monster so fast!

Hahaha, yep it used to be really brutal. Now after a few minutes the pain subsides and I keep twisting with numb fingers.

Wow. Just looking at that makes my hands hurt, I'd probably put on my coconut helmet and start setting things on fire after the first foot or so :P

There's always an easy way to do it and a right one. The right one seems to hurt, but that's quality. You can't even see it in the end. But you know it's in there. Great work, Roy!

I have also used tapered twists for cores. It seems to really work out, but it's not easy.

The Bradshaw rope maker makes life a little easier, if you can get the right tension on it. I do a little bit of 4-ply, drop one strand and tie it off, do a bit of 3-ply, rinse, lather, repeat.

Thanks Robby. David I've seen pics of that rope maker but have never witnessed one. It sounds like it should work nicely

It's a very nice tool. It requires a bit of learning to use, and it's not always the right answer, but definitely worth the purchase price.

Now that I'm getting into machining, I could just make them. For people without those tools, the 4-hook version should work fine.

Oh Buddy! Pokkis is right my hands hurt just looking at that!! I have to stop every few minutes to let my muscles stop cramping hahaha. Tap. Twist makes for a great core though, soaks up lots of wax.

Roy, that is seriously impressive! (Now I have an even better idea of why the cow whip I got from you performs so well....) But your poor hands!
