Y'all tell me what you think about this whip by a new local whip maker.
5 1/2 ft. Long chocolate brown and copperhead camouflage 12 plait thong, 12" fall, 13" cracker.
16" cherry handle with Tung oil finish (I made the handle)

The handle feels a little long for the length of the thong, but it looks really good. I like the colors and the plaiting looks nice and straight.

Local whipmaker wishes for me to relay to Miss Jessie that said whipmaker is anticipating, with great desire, critique on improving said whipmaking skills so therefore they had required Rachel McCollough to not list their name in first post!

Rachel, do a video to show how it cracks.

Tell said whipmaker that Miss Jessie approves and it is with great pleasure to announce that the plaiting looks very straight and even. The pattern is tight and my only suggestion would be to roll it a bit more to eliminate those kinks that you see while the whip is rolled up, where the taper happens. They work themselves out with use; however, when displaying, you want to present a smooth and flawless piece asthetic-wise. The handle is rather long; however, this is according to taste and if said whipper is short and needs the extra leverage, a longer handle would be necessary; thereby making the handle a nonissue in my honest opinion.

Rachel, that looks very good: more than respectable - good!
I like the co,ours. I also agree that the handle looks too long for the thong (or the thone too short for the handle). However, these things can be easily adjusted in future whips!

@ Rachel McCollough:
The plaiting looks very even, I dont see any gaps or bumps on the thong and the knots of the keeper strands look very tight.
I am very impressed by the local whipmakers work and would love to see more of it!!!
My greatest compliments to "the local whipmaker" Madam!!!
Greetings Ben

Thank you all very much for your comments, they each have been read with deep excitement and appreciation! This whipmaker will take each bit of advice to heart, and "Thank you, Miss Jessie, you are a fine whipper!"
Here's the fellow and more view of his whip:

There is a lot I love about this whip. I love the accent color in the thong and how it echos the color change in the handle. I think our new whip maker has an artists eye like me. Well done!
I disagree that the whip is too short for the handle. (My show whips have the same length handle and thong. I think what is making the thong look too short is the diameter differences. Either beefing up the belly a bit (on the next one) or tapering the top edge of the cup would be an easy fix for that.
My question is - Did the whipmaker love this project? Does he think it looks cool and cracks well? The only person he will ever be in competition with is himself and the only standard he has to hold his whips up to is if they are better than the last one he made. His opinion is the very most important. ((I do hope he is taking notes on everything he is doing and learning for future reference))

Heh. Tell him to bring that thing up here if you all come up to see Grandma again. I would love, love, love to try it out. I plan on being in Holman again this year. I wish I could get my hands on a camper, you guys would love to attend banquet and spend the night. We will see what I come up with from now until then.

From Garret, "thank you very much Ladies and Gentlemen! I like the whip and it is fun to crack, but I want to make a better one next time. I really enjoy looking at your new whips you make. We learn a ton of stuff from each building project of everyone. Thank you!!!"

With the close up shot, i can see the colors better and it definitely looks even better. I think Bobbi is right about the diameter making the handle look longer then it is. It looks better then the first 2 I've made and probably even the one I'm working on now. Keep up the good work Garrett.
