Whip Basics. The Forum

Many are doing these whips with thinner paracord so i touhgt i give it a try too.
Once i get my paracord i'm going to give this whip black and orange overlay with english eye.
I plaited these two bellyes from the tip. I attached strands as i would end them when plaiting from the handle and it worked fine.

I still need to give it some binding but otherwise its good to go.

Very slim and sleek, Yyri. - Have you rolled it yet? It looks to me as if there's a slight bulge at the very bottom of the photo....

How long is the handle, Jyri? That's a lot of closed loop binding there.

Robert, there is some shadow and i tightened the end of the binding too much. It should disappear when i remove it and continue it further down.
Sir Roger, too long! i havent measured it but i think its going to need cutting. There is carbon arrow with steel rod inside so i'm going to need some better too than my knife but i can finish the overlay much easier with too long handle.

Looking good Jyri! I do have to agree though, that's a huge amount of closed loop binding, so much work there :O

Jyri, you're right in having excess length on the handle makes it easier to finish.
Plaiting to the end and binding and cutting off the end exactly to the total whip length you want is a huge advantage in being able to get the length just where you want it.

The handle has to be longer so you can plait past the "end of the handle" a couple of inches on the extra length of the handle, and then just cut off the extra length.

This is going to be a very good whip.

So i took the binding apart all the way to the closed loop binding and continued it all the way to the tip next i bind the transition area.
At this point it just doesent want to go anywhere thus i have no idea wich way to plait it.

I finished binding and i dont know if this is the most binding i have ever made on one whip.
Most of you use artifisial sinew what is much stonger than my waxed thread so i tought i have to use it more.
This is with the curve of the last belly

That bend there is only becose i bended it by hand so it wouldnt touch the roof.

Should i plait it against the curve or with it? I have turned 180 degrees between every layer.

I've been rotating my cores for each belly and again for the overlay and I've made whips as stiff as that against the curve.
