Hit the submit too soon, I want to add that all the whip makers here have inspired me. Now if I can just get the wooden handles to look less clunky. I was limited a bit by how close the finished thong and the square purpleheart blank were in size as well as my limited ablilty at turning, but each attempt is a lesson.

Ethan, Now that you mention it (and I searched the forum) I do remember seeing Robert's new wooden-handled whip a few weeks ago and so was probably influenced somewhat by it. I now wish I had looked at it a bit closer, His handle has a much more elegant shape to it. I notice that Devin did not restrict himself to making the transition end of the thong and handle match diameters and as a result he has a much nicer looking handle.

As to the plait count, I had originally intended this to be a 16 plait (8 plait, 12, plait, and 14 plait bellies) but the angle of the plaits was just getting too flat for my taste, so I added a 4 more strands.

Mark, I think of all the advice you have shared every day I go to my other job. You have been a huge inspiration to me, and it makes my year to have served as inspiration in any form to such a fine friend. It has come from WB for both of us....what a great bunch of friends. Fine and knowlegable, and wonderful people.

Yes, so true. I have been a part of several different knotting forums, but none of them very open. Everyone had their trade secrets that they would not share. WB is better than FB even! Not so many strangers who you know nothing about... Making obscene comments on your work.

Mark, I actually think the beefy handle goes well, with the thong and the name.
