Two of My Whips

Hey guys,
I can tell you would like to see some of my work. Here are a few pictures of two of my whips:
This one is a eight foot stock whip, including the handle. It is my first attempt at a stockwhip, though I have not got around to redoing the knot foundation and tying the knot yet.

And this one is a 2.5' bull with of color handle, and my first attempt at an english eye.

My first couple of whips were really short too, but I was damned impatient. . Keep practicing and use your resources here on the forum. There is so much information to glean from here, you will love it. Let us know if we can help you find information. There is lots and lots.

Ethan, that stockwhip actually looks pretty good. Work on the heel knot a bit though. How is the balance between the handle and the thong?

The taper looks good on both and the plaiting (as far as I can see) looks pretty tight and clean.

The colors of the bullwhip are bright! If you like it, you make it, right?
I also like the subtle green knots on the stockwhip.
The knots overall look pretty good.
How many whips have you made so far? 'Cause if these are you first, I would say you're doing very well!

Agreed. But to some of us, the knots are the hardest part too. Fall hitches are my nemesis. Not that I cant do a damned hitch--oh no, but making them look all perfect like everyone else is a hateful undertaking. So, I try again and again...

Thanks, I definitely will. The stockwhip is very handle heavy (I used a quarter inch steel rod). The thong has a two foot BB load. Or, one third of the thong.

I think I might have a bit of an advantage as far as the knots go as I started out tying knots, rather than plaiting like you did.

The handle core, a quarter inch steel rod, is 22" long. But the keeper loop adds another 2" to the length making it 24" over all.

Ethan, Steel rod is too heavy for a stockwhip handle. As narrow as the thong looks it needs a lighter handle. I would try a fiberglass rod instead. It will be able to handle the stresses but remain lightweight. Good part about stockwhips is it is easy to change handles!

I do have to agree, my first stockwhip also used a steel rod, it was ridiculous how heavy it was haha
