So the snake whip I've been working on decided it didn't want to be a snake whip. After I had tied the heel knot, a very nice looking Double Goucho, by the way, and took it out for a test, I really didn't like the way it handled. I took the heel knot and foundation off and turned a 10 inch handle of Royal Ebony and epoxied it on. It now handles like a dream. It's not bound as much or as tightly as my bull whips usually are, since it was intended to be a snake whip, but it still handles and flows nicely. It has a TT core, 2 plaited bellies, and a 16 plait overlay. the whip overall is 7 ft and the Royal Ebony handle is 10 inches long. It has a TT fall, and an Englixh eye fall hitch. The Handle is finished with Tung oil and the whip is waxed.

I have never paid much attention to plaiting patterns before I joined here. It’s threads like this that make me realize how much a piece of art a well-plaited whip really is, even if it’s in just color.

Lovely mover, Mark. As to listening to your whip as you build, while I have notes on all my whip builds each new whip is a brand new 'thing'. Even if tbe stats are the same as a previous whip in length and plait count, each new whip is unique in its own way. And that, in my opinion, is how each new whip should be!
