I'd normally agree with you on trackpads David, but much to my surprise, I found the Macbook's trackpad even more enjoyable than using my trackball mouse that I love.
Car parts are a bit of a trick, stainless is a bit too expensive for things like body panels, whereas aluminum while cheaper and better yet for corrosion resistance and weight, is tricky to work with in the typical stamp operations that is done to form body panels. Frames, especially on pickup-trucks will benefit best from High Carbon steel for the strength, but unfortunately lack corrosion resistance. The compromise Ford made on the newest F-150 is to use all Aluminum body panels with the normal High-carbon steel frame. You get the corrosion resistance for body panels people normally care about, but still retain all the strength needed.
