Craig having to re-do things happens to me a lot.
It sucks but the re-do is worth it.

Craig - what happened to that idea? I was really curious to see what it'll become.

Robby - unfortunately, competing priorities. I'm still going to make the South Dakota whip, but I need to do the Arizona one first in order to make money for our Boy Scout troop.

MUCH better results this time. This is also the first time that I used the constrictor knot to hold everything down until I could cover it with one continuous wrap of hockey tape, giving me a much more even taper with less lumps.

Thank you, Ben and Robert.

Arizona whip is on hold now. The two shades of red that I ordered haven't arrived yet, which pisses me off. They were supposed to be here by Friday. I even paid extra for expedited shipping, but the seller waited almost a week to take them to the post office. According to the tracker, he printed the labels on Tuesday, but the post office didn't get them until Thursday and they haven't even left the office yet.

So I guess I'll go ahead and start my SD deer antler whip.

I'm using a six inch rod that I'll stick into the antler two inches. I'll start the braiding at the two inch point, leaving four inches of braided steel handle coming out of the antler before the transition. I need to find a drill press to cut the hole and buy some apoxy. I don't think this whip will have a transition knot.

I also need to sand down the branch on the side of the antler to make the grip more comfortable.

Now you have my full and complete attention, Craig! I love everything with antler.
Ferrules, knife handles, on a necklace... And a whole whip handle from that wonderful
material... A dream for me. Please post a lot of pics! Only if you like, of course!

Thank you, Robby. Here's the start of the first belly. I'm slowly starting to learn the square start from Bert's how-to. Still a little gappy, but not horribly so.
