It's been a while since I posted any of my work besides the whip for the swap.
Here is the first whip I put an English eye on, it is a 7 foot in Black and Dark brown with a 4 to 6 round eye, and the wood is Bloodwood which is a strong red throughout. The pictures are prior to waxing.
Here's wishing you find time for the things you want to do, and for the things you need to do.
We see ourselves in our children and hope for a better future.
Thanks everyone, and you guys are right, the handles does do well with the darker thong. The Bloodwood itself polished really well, but was a bear to cut. I may shellac less dense woods like Walnut or ash in the future as they don't take quite the silky smoothness the denser woods tend to get.
That is one sweet lookin rig. Devin, do you ever use Beeswax to seal your wood? This is something I'm just now looking into, a mixture of mineral or olive oil and beeswax.
Roy, I sand with paste wax and then coat the handle with a stick of beeswax and melt it in with a rag. When the beeswax wears off I apply a mineral oil and beeswax mix to the handle.
Thanks again guys, I agree Keanu, there is something classy about the polished red.
Here is my most recent effort,
The thong is in rust paracord, and the handle is an 8" piece of Lignum Vitae. The grapevine is in dacron, and the eye is served with artificial sinew. It needs to be glued and waxed yet. The grapevine service also makes up for the shorter handle, and the center of balance is at about 10"
