4' 12 plait Snakewhip with wire/BB core. Sorry, I don't have and pictures from before I tore it apart. This is the first whip I made with a decent transition, but that is only due to the wire I used for the first foot and a half or so, not to any binding. I actually found that I used a double drop going from 12 to 10 on this whip, I don't remember doing that at all.

8' 12 plait Stockwhip with BB load and steel handle core(way too heavy).

2.5' Bullwhip with first attempt at an english eye.

4' 18 plait Snake whip. I gave this one away to an old friend. This one had bolsters made of athletic tape, as well as, my early thick binding.

There's a lot of improvement going from #1 to the last. Keep going. I really like the later whips, especially #12, though I couldn't exactly tell you why.
It just speaks to me...

Thanks Jyri and Sven! I like #12 a lot too. Despite the imperfections with the overlay it turned out to be a pretty good whip performance wise. I'll have to get a video of how it flows.

Hey guys! Here are a few pictures of another stockwhip I am working on:

I started with an un-tapered two strand twist core, with the goal of creating a smaller core for the 12 plait overlay which I plan to fancy plait, that way it will be easier to avoid gaps. The core is bound with my new serving tool.



The eight plait belly. I still have a hard time with the transition from plait to twist. Not so much the set up, but keeping even tension on all strands.

Belly rolled & bound by hand. I am not at all used to the server yet.

I had to do a bid of binding halfway along the twist because I didn't keep even tension in that spot

This is going to be a 6' by the way.

Hey Ethan, nice colour you choose. I try that same server tool, I find it difficult with this tool to get larger distances between the individual windings. however, it works great if you make closed loop bindings.

I tried a server tool once but didn't like the results so went back to binding by hand off a door handle. Thing's looking good though, Ethan.

You are welcome, it is the gold 650 cord from Roy. I've been trying to find a color that could pass as leather at a glance, but I need something a bit darker... Though I do very much like the finished waxed color.

So here are a few sneak peaks of the overlay:



The english eye turned out a little bit oversized , and it still needs a bit of serving at the join. The keeper end needs the overlay and then a knot to cover the "switch". After being attached to the handle keeper of course! And after that it will need waxing before it is complete.

What I did here is turn one set of opposing seams into checkerboard and left the other two as they were. Like this:

(Though I omitted the ring from the pattern as it caused too much twist in my seam.)
